Pilot Wings Variations

As you can see there is just no system for flying suit wings at all until November 2006.  It is down to whatever is ordered at the time.  SAR Squadron tried to standardise the wing in 1999 and directed that all pilots of the Squadron should wear the wing shown (it is a match for the Crew Wing).

The 19th Cadet Class (2001) used the metal wing as their guideline.  It is interesting that the metal and Bullion/cloth wings differ in shape and I think that over the years they just drifted apart in design.

2006 Variation

In November 2006 a new variation was introduced for the flight suit and flight jacket.  This was done to introduce a level of standardisation.  With this introduction the aim is that the actual wings will be the same design no matter what the format is.  I designed this variation.  It is 100mm x 50mm with velcro backing.  NOTE:  This wing size and colour matches the enlisted ranks wing and the aircraft badge.
