New Formations, 2003 : All the following insignia are associated with new formations within the Irish Defence Forces. These badges started to appear during 2003.

The units shown below are all part of the DFTC and were previously Depots, Schools and Units within the Curragh Command.

CSC comprises of the following schools: Artillery, Cavalry, Engineers & CIS

CSSC comprises of the following schools: Administration, Catering, Medical, MP School, Ordnance, Transport & the Defence Forces School of Physical Culture (DFPCS)

SSU comprises of the following: Education Resources, Personnel, Logistics, a CIS Detachment, a Medical Detachment, an Ordnance Detachment and a Transport Company.

 

 

Logistics 

Because of a small flaw at design stage the four badges shown below were actually manufactured with an error (i.e. The Q was made as an O and the rifle on the top was just a squiggle).  The 1st LSB discovered the flaw in time and had their badge rectified so the error was not issued.

Training Areas 

The three badges shown below represent the Defence Forces Training Areas.  Because of the small staff in these locations these badges are extremely rare.

NOTE1: 1 Armoured Cavalry Squadron was previously 1 Tank Squadron and 1 Armoured Car Squadron.
NOTE2: LBH was previously known as St.Bricin's Hospital. The other two hospitals (namely DFTC Curragh & Cork Hospital) do not wear this badge.
NOTE3: The badge of the School of Music has been issued to the unit but because of an error in the badge it is not being worn.

 

 

Variations & Errors 

The badge shown here for 1st LSB was the one with the error (as mentioned above).

Also, this example of the the BTC was produced by the unit prior to issue of the standard badge as shown further above.
