How to Change Your Display Resolution |
The badges displayed within the pages of my WebSite have been laid out to accommodate a display resolution of 1024 by 768. Although most pages will present well in a smaller resolution of 800 by 600 a visitor will get a better presentation if they change their display resolution to 1024x768 (at least while navigating my WebSite).
FYI, A display resolution of 1024x768 is pretty much the standard display setting used today, especially as most PC's now have a 17" monitor. Older PC's (i.e. computers bought before 1997/98) and in particular those with a 14" (or even 15") monitor are probably set-up to use a resolution setting of only 800x600.
Below is a simple step by step instruction on how to change the display resolution of your Windows* based PC. First read the instruction fully before attempting to change your display settings. If you are unsure as to what resolution you are currently using, Steps 1 to 3 can also act as a guide to help you check your settings.
* Windows 95, 98, ME. Users of NT4 and 2000 will find the following instruction only as a rough guide.
STEP 1 : Click on Start, Settings and select "Control Panel" from the menu that appears.

STEP 2 : In the Control Panel you will see an icon called "Display". Double-click on that icon.

STEP 3 : You have opened a "Display Properties" options box similar to the example shown below. Depending on the make and model of your PC and the video card installed a slightly different Display Properties option box might appear but you will find a "Settings" tab. Click on that tab.
In the Settings section you will see a "Desktop Area" option with a sliding ruler. This option will indicate to you what display resolution your PC are currently using. e.g. "800 by 600 pixels" or "1024 by 768 pixels" (your PC may also be capable of several other resolution sizes depending on the video card).
Using the sliding ruler change the display resolution to 1024x768 and click the 'Apply' button.

STEP 4 : You may now get the following prompt as shown below. Later versions of Microsoft Windows have this check built in to make sure your video card and it's installed software driver is capable of using the resolution you are about too just change to. Click on the 'OK' button and wait.

Your screen will go blank (or flicker) and after a few seconds a display will reappear. If your PC is capable of displaying a resolution of 1024x768 will now see a 'tighter' display (e.g. smaller icons etc.) and your screen area will appear to have got bigger (e.g. it will seem as if more can now fit onto the screen).
STEP 5 : If your display area appears good, click on the 'Yes' button. However, If your screen now appears distorted, fussy or just basically a poor quality then click on the 'No' button.

(Most modern PC's 5 years or younger should not have a problem adopting a change in the display resolution. If in doubt consult the hardware documentation for your computer).

Shortcut Way Of Changing Your Display Resolution |
Alternatively, you can quickly change your display resolution if a small computer monitor like icon is visible in the "System Tray" located at the bottom right-hand-side of your screen.

Right-click on that icon to display a short menu. This menu will give you all the various display resolutions you can choose from.
NOTE: That the "Change Display Prompt" as mentioned in Step 4 above will NOT appear.

This shortcut is a handy way of quickly toddling between different display settings. If the small computer monitor like icon is not visible in the System Tray you can easily turn it on by following Steps 1 to 3 (as above) and placing a tick beside the option "Show settings icon on task bar" located toward the bottom of the Settings section of the Display Properties option box.
Thank you for considering to change your display resolution.
